What Is a Thatcham S5 Tracker?

Thatcham S5 (also called Cat 5) is the UK's gold standard for vehicle tracking. Unlike basic GPS trackers, an S5 device must meet strict criteria set by Thatcham Research — the automotive security authority recognised by UK insurers.

24/7 Secure Operating Centre
SOC must be staffed and monitored around the clock — not just during office hours.
Driver Recognition
S5 requires driver recognition technology — such as a tag or PIN — to detect unauthorised movement.
Multi-Network SIM
Must operate across multiple mobile networks for continuous UK and European coverage.
Stolen Vehicle Recovery
SOC must have a direct liaison protocol with UK Police forces for immediate recovery.
